Senators set to debate Obamacare replacement

The Republicans finally took a step towards achieving President Donald Trump’s key campaign pledge of replacing the Affordable Care Act (ACA) on Tuesday evening, though only by convincing Senators to debate the issue.

A decisive vote from Vice President Mike Pence was needed to allow the discussion on health care legislation to take place, with previous attempts by the Trump administration to repeal and replace the ACA, known as Obamacare due its introduction by previous President Barack Obama, having failed.

And after the vote to begin debate, the Senate considered a comprehensive replacement for the ACA that would have cut health insurance and subsidies for lower income groups, but that fell far short of the support it needed to pass.
