The number of patients who have taken part in clinical studies supported by the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) over the last year in England is a record 870,250.
A breakdown of the figures shows that the most participants were recruited into children’s research studies (81,892), trials delivered in primary care settings (78,533), reproductive health and childbirth research (74,128), oncology (67,652) and mental health (65,645).
The National Health Service has a goal of one million people taking part in clinical research by 2023/24.
