BRIEF—House introduces bills to strengthen Vaccine Injury Compensation Program

15 August 2023

US legislators have proposed two new bills that aim to bolster the Vaccine Injury Compensation Program and help vaccines gain the general public's acceptance, the first being the Vaccine Injury Compensation Modernization Act and the second The Vaccine Access Improvement Act.

US trade body the Biotechnology Innovation organization (BIO) considers VICP to be a key program that supports patients with vaccine injuries but also boosts people's confidence in vaccines.

"BIO applauds Reps Doggett, Smucker, and Kelly for their commitment to strengthening this program that is a vital part of our nation's public health and immunization infrastructure," said Phyllis Arthur, senior vice president for infectious diseases and emerging science policy.
