US biotech firm Orgenesis has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire all outstanding stock of US regenerative medicines company Koligo Therapeutics for an aggregate of $15 million, subject to final closing conditions, with expected completion before year-end. 29 September 2020

Canada’s Bausch Health has entered into an agreement to acquire an option to purchase all ophthalmology assets of USA-based Allegro Ophthalmics, including global rights for Luminate (risuteganib). 21 September 2020

Last week saw a major M&A activity, with Gilead Sciences announcing a $21 billion deal to acquire Immunomedics and its breast cancer drug Trodelvy. On the research front, Swiss pharma giant Roche reported new real-world data on its Ocrevus, showing significant benefit in slowing multiple sclerosis disease progression. Among licensing news, Seattle Genetics signed a collaboration with Merck & Co, which could be worth $4.2 billion, and involves the cancer drugs ladiratuzumab vedotin and Tukysa. Also, US mRNA specialist Moderna entered into two collaborations, one with Italy’s Chiesi on pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH), and the other with Vertex, expanding their existing cystic fibrosis collaboration. 20 September 2020

Last week’s news featured two M&A deals: Nestle announced that it is buying full control of Aimmune Therapeutics and its peanut allergy agent Palforzia in a $2.6 million deal; and Ionis Pharmaceuticals revealed it is acquiring all the shares in Akcea Therapeutics it does not already own. Other deal-making included Gilead Sciences entering an agreement to license Jounce Therapeutics’ JTX-1811 immunotherapy program, and AbbVie and China’s I-Mab Biopharma signing a deal for the commercialization of cancer candidate lemzoparlimab, worth up to $2 billion to I-Mab. 6 September 2020

Last week saw US pharma major AbbVie release disappointing Phase II trial results on its emraclidine in schizophrenia, which benefited Bristol Myers Squibb. Also on the research front, Germany’s Merck KGaA and Abbisko’s pimicotinib showed positive results in tenosynovial giant cell tumor (TGCT). M&A news saw German BioNTech punting $800 million upfront to acquire China based oncology focused Biotheus. Also of note, US drugmaker Halozyme Therapeutics made an unsolicited takeover bid for Evotec, valuing the German firm, at around 2 billion euros. 17 November 2024

South Korean biosimilars company Celltrion today announced its acquisition of iQone Healthcare Switzerland a specialty pharmaceutical company focused on distribution, sales, and marketing in Switzerland. 15 November 2024

Shares of German drug discovery company Evotec leapt 20% to 10.33 euros this morning on the revelation that the USA’s Halozyme Therapeutics has submitted a non-binding proposal to acquire Evotec for 11.00 euros per share in cash, implying a fully-diluted equity value of around 2.0 billion euros ($2.12 billion). 15 November 2024

Also of note, Lexicon’s type I diabetes drug Zynquista faced a Food and Drug Administration (FDA) advisory committee review that resulted in largely negative vote against recommendation. 3 November 2024

Maryland, USA–based glycobiology specialist GlycoMimetics has entered into an acquisition agreement with Crescent Biopharma, a privately held biotechnology company advancing a pipeline of oncology therapeutics designed to treat solid tumors. 30 October 2024
