US FDA puts hold on lupus trial after patient deaths

Kezar Life Sciences (Nasdaq: KZR) has paused its Phase IIb PALIZADE trial evaluating zetomipzomib in lupus nephritis (LN) following the deaths of four patients.

After the announcement, the US Food and Drug Administration opted to place the study on a clinical hold. The agency will provide details outlining its concerns within a month.

The PALIZADE trial, which has enrolled 84 patients globally, aims to assess the safety and efficacy of two dose levels of zetomipzomib in combination with standard therapies.
