Trump sparks backlash with cuts to Gavi funding

The Trump administration plans to pull US funding from Gavi, the global vaccine alliance that helps deliver immunizations to children in lower-income countries, according to internal documents obtained by the New York Times.

Since its launch 25 years ago, Gavi has reportedly saved 19 million lives, with the US accounting for around 13% of its funding.

The leaked materials reveal sweeping reductions in foreign aid, including cuts to malaria programs and vaccine procurement initiatives. The move would abandon a $2.6 billion US pledge to Gavi over five years, a sum that helped support vaccinations for millions of children worldwide.
