Trump nominates acting CDC director to head the agency
US President Donald Trump on Monday nominated acting Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) head Dr Susan Monarez to take over as the agency's director.
The decision comes after President Trump pulled his nomination of Dr Dave Weldon for the position when it became clear that he lacked needed support.
"As an incredible mother and dedicated public servant, Dr Monarez understands the importance of protecting our children, our communities, and our future. Americans have lost confidence in the CDC due to political bias and disastrous mismanagement," the president posted on Truth Social, announcing the pick Monday afternoon.
