Hours after the swearing-in of the Secretary of Health and Human Services, Robert F Kennedy Jr (RFK), President Donald Trump issued an executive order establishing the Make America Healthy Again Commission (MAHA).
The President cited poor health outcomes of Americans when compared to other wealthy nations, the alarming rate of increasing chronic diseases and mental health conditions, and the high prevalence of autism, obesity, fatty liver disease, and prediabetes among children. These issues have far-reaching consequences, including a reduced military recruitment pool and massive healthcare costs, with 90% of America’s $4.5 trillion annual healthcare spending going towards chronic and mental health conditions.1,2
