Ranbaxy launches Riomet, the first liquid metformin

USA-based generics firm Ranbaxy Pharmaceuticals, a wholly-owned subsidiary of India's drug giant Ranbaxy Laboratories, has announced the launch of Riomet (metformin hydrochloride oral solution) 500mg/5mL, the first and only liquid metformin on the market. Metformin is the most prescribed oral treatment for type 2 diabetes, and the company's liquid form may significantly improve the lives of diabetics unable to swallow tablets, an often unrecognized but widespread condition known as dysphagia, affecting one in 17 people to some degree.
