The Canadian subsidiary of Purdue Pharma, a US privately-held pharmaceutical company focused on research into persistent pain and associated treatments, will be hiring 53 people to work in R&D and advanced manufacturing with the expansion of its operations in Pickering, Ontario.
The firm intends to break ground on the C$32.0-million ($40.0 million) expansion in January 2009. It says the investment will double its R&D capacity in Ontario.
The Canadian province is itself investing $4.9 million million in the project through its Biopharmaceutical Investment Program, part of the Next Generation of Jobs Fund.
