PharmaZell opens 2nd center in India

6 April 2008

Germany-headquartered drugmaker PharmaZell, having set up a development group in Chennai, India, has now opened a second one at Vizag, Visakhapatnam, named PharmaZell R&D (India) Private Ltd. There, a team of about 25 chemists will be developing generic active pharmaceutical ingredients and working on exclusive customer requirements. The workforce will be increased gradually to a total of around 50 chemists. The opening of this center marks a further important milestone for PharmaZell and for the group's future growth, it says.

In Vizag, development work will be undertaken for the PharmaZell Group at laboratory level. The next stage will be technology transfer to one of the firm's manufacturing facilities: in Chennai, Copenhagen in Denmark or Raubling inGermany. At each of these sites there are already pilot facilities and large-scale plants in place, where quantities of the active substances are produced for clinical trials and commercial use. The fact that the new Vizag Development Center is only an hour's drive from the new PharmaZell production plant currently under construction (Pharma City, Vizag) will facilitate future technology transfer substantially, it notes.
