Delegates at the World Health Assembly have endorsed a global action plan to tackle antimicrobial resistance, including access to affordable vaccines.
The plan agreed at the World Health Assembly sets out five objectives: to improve awareness and understanding of antimicrobial resistance, to strengthen surveillance and research, to reduce the incidence of infection, to optimize the use of antimicrobial medicines, and to ensure sustainable investment in countering resistance. It urges member states to put the plan into action, adapting it to their national priorities and specific contexts and mobilizing additional resources for its implementation. By adopting the global plan, governments have committed to having in place by 2017 a national action plan on antimicrobial resistance that is aligned with the global action plan.
