The US government has announced plans to contribute $4.3 billion to the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria.
Subject to approval from Congress and ongoing support from the government succeeding the Obama administration, the USA will make this further contribution to a fund to which it is the leading supporter as the provider of around one third of overall funding.
The announcement, made on Wednesday in Washington DC, comes shortly before a Global Fund Replenishment Conference in Montreal later this month, which will be attended by world leaders and decision-makers, and will set funding for the next three years.
