Uncertainty over future UK involvement in EU clinical trials regulation

Anglo-American law firm Hogan Lovells has issued a note explaining that Brexit has created ambiguity around the future legal status of the new EU Clinical Trials Regulation (CTR) in the UK.

Counsel Jane Summerfield said: "During a recent debate in the House of Lords, the government’s representative for life sciences, Baroness Goldie, confirmed that the government is committed to implementing the CTR into UK law to the extent possible.”

“However, the UK cannot unilaterally legislate to have access to EU systems and structures, including the new EU clinical trials portal and database. Where uncertainty arises is around how, when and to what extent the CTR will be implemented in the UK."
