The government of Ukraine is considering fixing the prices of the drugs sold in the country, according to Ukraine’s Deputy Prime Minister Konstantin Grishchenko.
The Ukrainian pharmaceutical market grew by 17% in 2012 and reached a value of 30 billion hryvnia ($3.75 billion). This year, growth of the market is expected to slow down to 11%.
According to state plans, this is expected to take place through the introduction of a scheme of reference pricing, which will ensure that prices for drugs in Ukraine will be comparable with those for the same drugs in foreign countries, and in particular the European Union and USA.
