Ukraine is on the verge of a new increase of pharmaceutical prices and a potential shortage of drugs, due to recently announced state plans to introduce an additional charge on drug imports to the country in the amount of 5%-10%.
It is expected that the new charge will help to attract additional revenue to the Ukrainian state budget. At the same time it is planned that it will not affect imports of vital drugs, reports The Pharma Letter’s local correspondent.
In the explanatory memorandum, the Ukrainian government said that the introduction of such import charges fully complies with World Trade Organization (WTO) rules, as the financial situation in Ukraine has significantly deteriorated for the last 12 months.
