Leading Ukrainian pharmaceutical producers have called on the national government to revise the earlier adopted decision to provide preferences to foreign drugmakers over local firms during the state tenders for the purchase of drugs, according to a press-service of the Ukraine government, The Pharma Letter’s local correspondent reports.
According to a recent preliminary decision of the Ukrainian government, international organizations such as the World Health Organization and UNICEF will be responsible for the organization of tenders for the purchases of drugs for state need in Ukraine.
This, however, has already sparked criticism from local drugmakers, according to which, the organization of state tenders by the WHO and UNICEF will result in the fact that the majority these contracts will be given to multinational pharmaceutical corporations, which have strong connections with the both organizations.
