Total US spending on meds was $425 billion in 2015, report shows

Spending on medicines in the USA increased by double digits for a second year in 2015, reaching $425 billion based on invoice prices.

That’s the top line from the IMS Institute for Healthcare Informatics Annual Review of Medicine Use and Spending in the US: A Review of 2015 and Outlook to 2020.

The report, released on Thursday, showed that apart from the 2014 increase, growth in spending, reflecting the amount paid to distributors by patients, increased at the highest rate since 2001.
