Spain a 'prime candidate' to host post-Brexit EMA, Farmaindustria says

The Spanish government has confirmed its interest in Spain hosting the European Medicines Agency (EMA) if it moves from its current UK base following the vote for Brexit in last month’s referendum.

Farmaindustria, the trade group representing Spain’s pharmaceutical industry, has backed the move, saying Spain is a ‘prime candidate’ to host the agency.

Deputy Prime Minister of Spain, Soraya Sáenz de Santamaría, has called the EMA "of great interest to Spain,” saying the country’s competitiveness, important financial sector and its health system – “recognized as one of the world’s best” – strengthens its case.
