Shire moves closer to EU and Canadian markets with potential HAE blockbuster

With all eyes in the industry focused on Shire (LSE: SHP) amid confirmed interest from Japanese pharma major Takeda (TSE: 4502) in taking over the Ireland-incorporated drugmaker, Friday was a good time for the company to announce progress on a promising asset.

The European Medicines Agency (EMA) has validated the company’s marketing authorization application (MAA) for lanadelumab (SHP643) and Shire also reports that Health Canada has completed screening and accepted the New Drug Submission (NDS) under Priority Review for this investigational compound.

"Lanadelumab is the first monoclonal antibody under evaluation to prevent HAE attacks and has the potential to change the treatment paradigm for this rare disease"
