US authorities are investigating the contracts between a number of drugmakers and companies that manage prescription benefits.
The Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York is seeking information on the pharma firms’ relationships with the pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs), according to regulatory filings.
PBMs administer drug benefits for employers and health plans, and run mail-order pharmacies. Drug companies often agree to pay rebates or offer discounts to PBMs in exchange for these managers paying for their members’ use of certain drugs.
