Scientists, researchers, innovators, and entrepreneurs from Europe gathered to discuss new discoveries at the 2016 EuroScience Open Forum (ESOF) in Manchester at the end of July. “The next Plague – preparing for global pandemics” was a topic of particular interest, with debate centering on the direction research should take in combating pandemics.
During his presentation, the chief scientific officer of Johnson & Johnson (NYSE: JNJ), Paul Stoffels, pointed out that collaboration between government, industry, and research institutions was essential. The Center for Disease Control (CDC) Influenza Division International Program already has numerous preparations in place to help public health authorities in the event of a pandemic.
