Pelosi drug pricing plan passes key US committee vote

An important Congressional committee has approved House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s pharmaceutical pricing bill, leading the way to further debate and an eventual vote in the US House of Representatives.

The proposal passed by 30 to 22, opening up the prospect of a heated discussion with Republicans, who oppose the measures.

The plan would permit the federal government to negotiate prices for hundreds of branded products, including insulin, for Medicare beneficiaries.
