Republicans in the Senate, the primary legislative body in the USA, have at last revealed their latest, secretly-drafted, proposal to replace the Affordable Care Act.
The bill including elements put forward by hard liner and failed presidential candidate Ted Cruz, including so-called ‘skimpy plans’ - bare-bones insurance coverage that falls below the minimum standards set by Obamacare.
By tacking to the right, majority leader Mitch McConnell hopes to pick up enough votes from the conservative wing of the party to see the bill through its final legislative hurdle, a vote in the Senate.
