Research published in the British Medical Journal (BMJ) suggests that taking painkillers known as non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) increases the risk of heart failure by less than 20% overall.
However, the UK’s National Health Service (NHS) has warned against overstating the threat and quoting that figure out of context, with the risk of scaremongering among people who regularly take over-the-counter painkillers such as ibuprofen.
