Novartis raided amid unlawful patent use allegations

The Basel, Switzerland-headquarters of pharma giant Novartis (NOVN: VX) were raided at dawn earlier this week by the Swiss Competition Commission (COMCO).

The COMCO announced in a statement that it had ‘opened an investigation against a Swiss pharmaceutical company concerning a possible unlawful use of a patent to reduce competitive pressure’.

The statement adds: “This company allegedly attempted to protect its drug for the treatment of skin diseases against competing products by using one of its patents to initiate litigation proceedings.
