New therapies for metastatic disease addressed in updated NCCN Guidelines for breast cancer

15 March 2011

Women with metastatic breast cancer have expanded treatment options for treating the disease and in the prevention of skeletal-related events as outlined in the recently updated NCCN Guidelines for Breast Cancer issued by the not-for-profit National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) alliance of 21 of the world’s leading cancer centers.

Robert Carlson of Stanford Comprehensive Cancer Center, and chairman of the NCCN Guidelines Panel for Breast Cancer, presented these and other notable updates to the NCCN Guidelines at the NCCN’s 16th annual conference last week. “By identifying the presence of biomarkers in breast tumors, health care providers are better able to prescribe effective, personalized treatments that are more likely to result in positive outcomes for patients,” Dr Carlson said.
