More medicine causes increased costs in Denmark

In the first three quarters of 2023, Denmark’s expenditure on the purchase of hospital medicine rose by 2.5 % to almost 6.6 billion Danish kroner ($974.5 million).

The increase is solely due to rising consumption, show calculations from the Pharma industry Association (Lægemiddelindustriforeningen; Lif) based on figures from the regions' purchasing organization Amgros.

It is increasing consumption of medicine and not increasing prices that means that the regional hospitals in the first three quarters of 2023 should have more money out of their pockets. Exactly 163 million kroner, the Lif stated.
