Germany’s Merck KGaA (MRK; DE) has hired Dr Maria Rivas as senior vice president, head of global medical affairs.
A board-certified endocrinologist, Dr Rivas brings significant medical affairs experience leading large teams across a breadth of therapeutic areas at major global pharmaceutical companies including Merck, Sharpe and Dohme (MSD), the non-North America trading name of Merck & Co (NYSE: MRK), AbbVie, and Bayer.
Dr Rivas will be responsible for bridging between the efforts in R&D and commercialization of products, most importantly for several new product launches on the horizon. She will be responsible for developing and successfully implementing a world-class medical affairs strategy to inform Merck’s Healthcare priorities, and ultimately shape future medical affairs best practices, all with the ambition of evolving the healthcare ecosystem to positively impact the lives of patients.
