The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and a global trade body representing research-based pharma have launched an online tool to help procurement agencies better understand the global patent status of medicines.
On the Patent Information Initiative for Medicines (Pat-INFORMED), intellectual property holders provide information about patents covering approved therapies through a free, open access database.
WIPO is hosting the database and providing resources to ensure its continued development, while the International Federation of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers and Associations (IFPMA) is working closely with the 20 leading research-based biopharmaceutical companies that have backed the initiative to bring a consistent and coordinated approach.
