Landmark declaration to tackle AMR signed by 193 UN member states

A landmark declaration to combat the growing threat of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) has been signed by all 193 United Nations member states at a high-level meeting at the UN headquarters in New York.

The meeting brought together member states, non-governmental organizations, civil society, the private sector and academic institutions to address what has been described as “the greatest future threat to our civilization.”

Such is the threat, AMR is only the fourth health issue to trigger a UN general assembly meeting - HIV/Aids, non-communicable diseases and Ebola being the other three.
