Judge checks White House effort to cut NIH funding

As the new White House seeks to push ahead with swingeing cuts to government spending, a federal judge in Massachusetts has thrown a wrench in the works.

District Court Judge Angel Kelley has issued a preliminary injunction against a plan to reduce National Institutes of Health (NIH) funding, a move that researchers warned could jeopardize medical progress and lead to job losses.

The decision prevents the cuts from taking effect while multiple lawsuits challenging the policy move forward.
