The Indian government is seeking to overhaul the patent rules in the country to spur innovation and research and development (R&D). Minister for Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal said the commitment to quality will transform manufacturing in the country.

He added that the traditional approach of labeling specially-cared-for and carefully-handled products as 'export quality' should be abandoned, as all goods should be of good quality.
