HHS supports medication-assisted treatment to fight opioid addiction

The newly appointed secretary of the US Health and Human Services (HHS), Alex Azar, has outlined concrete steps his agency plans to take to combat the country’s opioid addiction epidemic.

Washington DC press reports that Mr Azar is preparing to deliver a speech that will set out his support for the use of medication-assisted treatment (MAT) in reducing the impact of addiction to prescription and illegal opioids.

He will reportedly detail measures aimed at increasing the availability of this treatment.
