HHS going big in drive to defeat opioid crisis

The US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is spending big in a sign of how seriously it is taking the opioid epidemic.

Calling the issue a ‘crisis ravaging our country,’ the HHS has announced that it has this week awarded more than $1 billion in opioid-specific grants.

These awards, announced as the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA)  ups its efforts to restrict the prescribing of opioids, support the HHS’s Five Point Opioid Strategy that was launched last year.
