GlaxoSmithKline's adult asthma medication gets regulatory nod in Canada

UK pharma major GlaxoSmithKline (LSE: GSK) and Theravance (Nasdaq: THRX) have received regulatory approval for their drug to treat adult asthma in Canada.

The company in a joint statement with Theravance said its Breo Ellipta (fluticasone furoate/vilanterol dry powder for oral inhalation) treats asthma in adult patients.

Michael Aguiar, chief executive of Theravance, said: "With today's approval of Breo Ellipta in Canada, we are pleased to expand the number of patients able to benefit from this important medicine. As a once-daily treatment for adults with asthma, people suffering from this chronic condition now have an additional option."
