Sir Mike Rawlins (pictured above in 2008), a UK pharmacologist who made a massive impact in the field of medicines reimbursement in his own country and internationally, has died at the age of 81.
The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) - the cost-effectiveness watchdog of which Sir Mike was founding chairman - announced his death on Tuesday morning via its Twitter account.
Sir Mike led the NICE from 1999 to 2013 and is credited for taking the agency through its formative years to its current position as a world leader in health and social care guidance and medicine evaluation, the tweet reads.
