Privately-held Swiss firm Ferring Pharmaceuticals and I-MAB, a Shanghai-based biotech company, today announced that they have signed a licensing agreement which grants I-MAB exclusive rights to olamkicept (pINN) in Asia.
Olamkicept is a new recombinant protein inhibitor of the interleukin-6 pathway. Interleukin-6 is associated with numerous inflammatory conditions such as inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) and rheumatoid arthritis.
The agreement provides I-MAB with a Phase II-ready asset with differentiated product profile. Under the terms of the arrangement, I-MAB will fund further product development in exchange for an exclusive license in Asia with an option for worldwide use, with the goal of realizing the potential of olamkicept as a biomarker-guided and differentiated interleukin-6 blocker to treat autoimmune disease. Further financial terms were not disclosed.
