FDA widens net in fight against opioid abuse

At a public meeting in Washington DC, Food and Drugs Administration Commissioner Scott Gottlieb outlined some of the ways the US medicines regulator is working to combat the opioid addiction epidemic, RAPS reports.

Dr Gottlieb indicated that the agency had “sharply increased” the number of FDA agents monitoring the illicit trade in fentanyl on the dark web.

In addition, the agency is reported to be investigating the possible misuse of the gabapentinoid class of analgesic.
