US Food and Drug Administration Commissioner Scott Gottlieb has welcomed the White House budget request of $5.8 billion for the agency in 2019, an increase of 13% from this year.
In a statement prepared for a subcommittee of the US House of Representatives, Dr Gottlieb said the increase, $190 million of which will be paid by industry in user fees, would allow his agency to “make significant investments in advancing critical areas of science, domestic technology and public health.”
Among these efforts will be a new “knowledge management platform” at the FDA, which will help facilitate the review of health technologies.
