European regulator zeroes in on list of essential medicines

The European Medicines Agency has identified measures to address medicine shortages during public health emergencies, following a meeting of a steering group devoted to this task.

The EMA’s Medicines Shortages Steering Group (MSSG) has adopted a list of the main therapeutic groups of medicines required for emergency care, surgery, and intensive care.

This will be the basis for more definite lists of critical medicines which will be needed to deal with any future public health emergency or a major event.
