Epilepsy drug Xcopri gets Schedule V designation from DEA
South Korea-based SK Biopharmaceuticals’ subsidiary SK Life Sciences today announced that the US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) has designated its epilepsy treatment Xcopri (cenobamate tablets) as a Schedule V medicine.
This is welcome news for the company, because its product was seen to have a possible abuse potential.
Schedule V drugs represents the least potential for abuse, according to the DEA’s schedule rating. Schedule I drugs, substances, or chemicals are defined as drugs with no currently accepted medical use and a high potential for abuse. Some examples of Schedule I drugs are: heroin, lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD), marijuana (cannabis), 3,4-methylenedioxymethamphetamine (ecstasy), methaqualone, and peyote
