GSK (LSE: GSK) has reached a settlement with 10 plaintiff firms, resolving 93% of the Zantac (ranitidine) product liability cases it faced in state courts across the USA.
The agreement, which is expected to be finalized by mid-2025, covers approximately 80,000 cases and involves a payment of up to $2.2 billion.
The lawsuits were linked to allegations that Zantac, an antacid once widely used, could cause cancer due to the potential transformation of its main ingredient, ranitidine, into a carcinogen under certain conditions. In 2020, the US Food and Drug Administration instructed companies to withdraw Zantac from the market.
