Yaneth Giha, the first woman to serve as executive director of FIFARMA, the Latin American Federation of the Pharmaceutical Industry, spoke to Angel Galindo, The Pharma Letter’s Latin America correspondent.
Dr Giha is a Colombian economist and well-versed in healthcare and industry in the country, where she served for more than three years as executive president of AFRIDO, the national trade association for the pharmaceutical sector. She was also Minister of Education and general director of Colciencias, the nation’s institute for scientific research.
“It’s an honor to be the first woman to lead FIFARMA and to be part of a group of people who work every day for better health systems in the region,” she said. “As a woman, I understand the challenge we have, to continue showing so many other women that we can achieve what we want, if we put action, love and discipline into everything we undertake. We are here to support more women and make gender equality an everyday task.”
