Eisai partners with academia and government on gastro drug

EA Pharma, the gastro-focused subsidiary of Japanese drugmaker Eisai (TYO: 4523), has entered into an industry-academia-government joint research agreement with six related joint research organizations.

The project to research the potential of the anti-fractalkine antibody E6011 for the treatment of Crohn’s disease was selected by the Japan Agency for Medical Research and Development for its Cyclic Innovation for Clinical Empowerment grant program.

Fractalkine (FKN) is expressed in vascular endothelial cells in inflammatory diseases including inflammatory bowel disease and rheumatoid arthritis. It reduces inflammatory reaction by binding to the immune cells expressing FKN receptors (CX3CR1).
