The European Federation of Pharmaceutical Industries and Associations (EFPIA) has welcomed an agreement reached this week by the European Institutions on the General Data Protection Regulation.
The agreement, which has been four years in the making, aims to create strong data protection law for Europe’s 500 million citizens and will replace an outdated patchwork of national rules across the 28 member states.
The EFPIA said it plans to work with national authorities, the European Commission, academia, patients’ associations and other stakeholders during the implementation period to put in place a system that will boost research in Europe while protecting the privacy of empowered patients.
