Drug shortages next to be targeted by FDA

Be they about boosting generics, advancing gene therapies or other aspects of the drug development and manufacturing industry that it is trying to improve, announcements have been coming thick and fast from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Thursday’s was about the goal of reducing drug shortages, something that has been a hot topic particularly since the sparsity of certain medicines in the wake of last year’s Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico.

FDA Commissioner Scott Gottlieb has now announced the formation of a new Drug Shortages Task Force to tackle the issue.
