Robert F Kennedy Jr faced pointed questioning during his nomination hearing for secretary of health and human services, as lawmakers sought to reconcile his past controversial statements with the more evidence-based approach he now appears to endorse.
Mr Kennedy’s record on issues such as vaccine safety and public health policy was a central focus of the hearings, with senators pressing him to clarify his stance.
To the frustration of some, while he acknowledged the importance of strong scientific standards, he remained unwilling to fully distance himself from previous claims that have fueled skepticism about vaccines.
