Clean water regs threaten drug supply in EU, industry says
The pharmaceutical industry in Europe has questioned measures aimed at improving the way wastewater is treated by countries within the European Union.
In a bid to ensure the cleanliness of water in the region, the European Commission has proposed to charge medicines in the Urban Wastewater Treatment Directive.
In a statement, Brussels-based trade bodies The European Federation of Pharmaceutical Industries and Associations (EFPIA) and Medicines for Europe said the measure would “ultimately jeopardize patient access to medicines.”
