China moves to regulate growing telehealth sector

China’s public health watchdog, the National Health Commission (NHC), has released three sets of guidelines covering the burgeoning market for internet-based medical services.

The new guidelines say that online consultation services may only be provided to patients who have first been given an in-person diagnosis from a doctor, reports China’s state-run news service, the China Daily.

In addition, online doctors must work in collaboration with traditional service providers, such as hospitals, and they must have access to a patient's medical records before consulting or prescribing pharmaceutical products.
